To this end, lightweight concrete (LWC) is combined with nanoparticles, specifically TiO2 or ZnO. LWCs have high thermal performance and are recyclable. TiO2 nanoparticles are able to capture CO2 and remove it through chemical reactions. ZnO nanoparticles, on the other hand, are an industrial by-product that revalorises industrial waste from the Zn manufacturing process, significantly reducing its environmental impact and modifying the performance of LWCs.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>This project analyses the effects of these nanoparticles on the mechanical, thermal and carbonation performance of LWCs.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>The project proposes new LWCs with nanoparticle additives to mitigate climate change: capturing CO2 in cement-based materials, increasing the durability of concretes, revaluing industrial by-products, generating knowledge on the macro-scale effect of nanometric particles (new mixing process, new hydration products, setting evolution, etc.).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DESCRIPTION The project aims to improve the sustainability of the construction sector by contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, especially CO2 levels, and to increase the durability of these materials.
