Luis Tomás Silva Klein

RESEARCHER

Predoctoral researcher at the University of Oviedo, enrolled in the Doctoral Programme in Materials, and a member of the Sustainable Construction, Simulation, and Testing Research Group (GICONSIME).
Qualified as a Construction Engineer by the Universidad Austral de Chile.

His research focuses on the development of nanomodified lightweight concretes, analysing the effect of ZnO and nano-TiO₂ nanoparticles on fresh-state properties, mechanical strength development, post-critical fire behaviour, and durability, with particular emphasis on resistance to accelerated carbonation.

He also investigates the incorporation of phase change materials (PCM) into lightweight concrete mixes, aiming to assess their hygrothermal performance.

His work is based on macro-scale experimental testing, oriented towards defining viable mix designs that integrate these technologies while maintaining—or ideally enhancing—the performance of concrete, with a strong focus on sustainability and the use of industrial by-products.
